Poker or School

Poker or School I was reading a rather interesting article not too long ago about a university student asking advice on whether or not to stay in school or pursue poker online full time. I was intrigued by the question, so obviously I had to see the response. It was not at all what I expected. The argument was that the poker player may as well pursue poker full time and play at Everest Poker telecharger because school will always be there to go back to. A parallel was made with professional athletes in sports like football and basketball, who have decided to forego college or leave early in order to pursue the sport. Now I’m all for those who are physically gifted enough to play with the pros to jump in and play. They are, after all, in the prime years of their life and their athletic ability will be at it’s peak. I can’t say the same for poker players. While there is a definite element of sport in our game, it doesn’t require the same physical training regiment as a sports prodigy. And we don’t risk losing out on the prime aspects of our minds. In fact, it would seem likely to me that a player being stimulated by the college environment would have more mental acuity than his peers who aren’t being mentally stimulated by various academic rigors. My advice would be much different than, go ahead and play. As we all know, those who really make it in online poker are few and far between. Sure, you may be making enough now to live comfortably, or even more than comfortably by university standards, but I see no reason in postponing getting your degree to play cards. If you’re truly passionate about the game, then you should have no problem doing both school and poker. If you decide to go professional in poker, you have that opportunity after school, and with a degree, you still have something to fall back on if your run doesn’t go as successfully as you’d like it to. Conversely, if you decide to skip the degree and pursue poker as your career before getting the mighty expensive piece of paper, you then have to re-enroll and finish your studies. It seems like a no brainer to me from an economic standpoint to just suck it up and finish, even if you know you want to pursue poker but haven’t made the transition to full time professional. Just my two cents, but those two cents are two cents can be in the bank with the degree on top of them.
