Kill Button
Though it seems much less popular now than it was before the poker boom, one popular variation of a fixed-limit poker game is the kill game. This variation includes a kill button, which is given to a player when he reaches a preset determination of what will initiate a kill handoften either win the player wins a pot greater than a certain amount, or when he wins X number of hands in a row.
Once a player has the kill button, he posts a kill blind, which varies from between 1.5 to 2x the amount of the big blind, in essence a live straddle. The betting limits for the subsequent rounds are then also multiplied by the 1.5 or 2x for each street.
Kill pots are a great variant for tables that want heavy action and bigger pots. They can lead to greater swings in the players’ stacks, but also a better flow of money around the poker table.
For the gambler who always wants more money in the pot per hand, seeking out a kill table is a great option in arenas where you aren’t allowed to straddle traditionally. Though you’d better bring your action shoes, as kill pots can get huge in a hurry.
